It might be tacky to equate romance with cash, but then, someone's got to pay for courtship, don't they? Surely, love doesn't come cheap, though which of the world's cities gouge couples most for a night on the town?
Deutsche Bank has compiled a so-called 'Cheap Date Index,' which measures the cost of a date as defined by a standard bouquet of roses, a taxi ride, a Pizza Hut pizza, a two-litre bottle of pop, two movie tickets and a couple of beers. Where does this rendezvous cost most across the world? Click through to find out.
* All figures in USD.

Cost of a cheap date: $170.92
Paris might be the most romantic city there is, and, luckily, the cost for a date there isn’t the highest in the world. But a date in Paris still costs plenty, and couples had better beware their nightcap drink doesn't turn into more than one. According to Deutsche Bank, a pint of beer at an average bar, at $9.43 per in France, is the most expensive in the entire world.

Cost of a cheap date: $172.76
Everything about Deutsche Bank's definition of a date — from the flowers to the cab ride to the movie tickets — costs plenty in Moscow, but the bank doesn't factor in what might make dating cost even more in the Russian capital. According to Deutsche Bank's numbers, getting fit for a date in Moscow costs more than anywhere else in the world; the city's $150.19 monthly gym membership is the highest rate in a downtown business district of all cities surveyed.

Cost of a cheap date: $177.29
One of three American cities to appear on this list, flowers take up the bulk of the cost of Deutsche Bank's idea of a date in Chicago. According to the bank's numbers, a “cheap date in Chicago costs $177.29, and a bouquet of roses delivered to a date’s door makes up $113 of that amount.

Cost of a cheap date: $185.55
No one expects a night out in the Big Apple to come cheap, but what most stands out in New York City is the cost of simply going to the movies. At $13 per ticket, a night at the cinema in New York — especially for two people — is the most expensive anywhere in Canada or the U.S.

Cost of a cheap date: $186.93
As in Moscow, where a downtown gym membership costs the most in the world, prepping for your date in San Francisco won't be light on your wallet, either. According to Deutsche Bank, in only one place in the world (Tokyo) does it cost more to get a standard men's haircut in an expat area of the city. In San Francisco, this trim will set you back $36, according to Deutsche Bank.

5. Toronto

5. Toronto
Cost of a cheap date: $197.54
Canadian city for a date by a mile, Toronto is also more expensive than any cities in North America. Oddly, it is the cost of pizza that stands out in Toronto. According to Deutsche Bank, a large chicken supreme pizza at Pizza Hut costs $23.34, (putting it in a tie with Ottawa for the priciest such pie in the world).

4. London

4. London
Cost of a cheap date: $199.07
London is routinely noted as among the most expensive cities in the world, so of course a date costs plenty in the U.K. capital. Daters should be especially wary of the costs if a night out — ahem — goes too well. According to Deutsche Bank, in addition to a high 'Cheap Date Index' cost, a five-star hotel room in London costs about $545.90, the third-highest amount in the world.

3. Tokyo

3. Tokyo
Cost of a cheap date: $213.51
Tokyo is a place where everything date-related costs plenty, including a bouquet of flowers ($113), pint of beer ($6.88), two-litre bottle of pop ($3.16) and large pizza ($21.74). But other things you might need for your date will also sap your chequing account in Japan's capital. According to Deutsche Bank, it costs $5.71 for a 50 mL roll-on stick of deodorant in Tokyo, making it the priciest place for deodorant in the world.

2. Melbourne, Australia

2. Melbourne, Australia
Cost of a cheap date: $226.56
For a date, especially in 2013, flowers may be optional. But know this: in Melbourne, if you come bearing flowers, your date's going to know they set you back. According to Deutsche Bank, a bouquet of roses, including delivery, costs a staggering $139 in Australia, $20 more than the next most expensive country for flowers, Russia.

1. Sydney, Australia

1. Sydney, Australia
Cost of a cheap date: $229.77
Dwarfing most cities on this list is Sydney, where a simple date can cost as much $230, according to Deutsche Bank. The cost of a beer, or a ticket to a movie or city cab ride, isn't spectacular in Sydney when compared to other cities here, but the costs of two items stand out for the Aussie city. First, a bouquet of flowers in Australia costs a world-leading $139, and second, a simple two-litre bottle of pop costs $3.61 in Sydney, making it the most expensive on the planet.
